Portrait of Bodhivamsa

Bodhivamsa

Bodhivamsa (pronounced 'bo-dee-vang-sa') is a native of Colchester and has lived there all his life. He first encountered Buddhism in Colchester Public Library at the age of 14 and started meditating. Ten years later, in 1980, he became involved with the Buddhist Society and the Zen Society in London, and in 1984 discovered the London Buddhist Centre and started going on FWBO retreats. Subsequently he was a prime mover in the establishment of the Colchester Buddhist Group and later the Colchester Buddhist Centre. He was ordained as Bodhivamsa in 1996.

The main focus of Bodhivamsa'a spiritual practice is meditation; he also takes great inspiration from the Bodhicaryavatara, and likes to reflect on current affairs in relation to Buddhist ideals and philosophy.

Bodhivamsa works in an IT company as a Programming Team Leader. He has a young family, and enjoys gardening, sailing/canoeing, walking, DIY and doing up old cars!
