Gunasara was born in Oxford in 1966. He moved to Colchester at the age of six and was introduced to Buddhism at the Colchester Buddhist Centre in July 1993. Quickly inspired by the principle of 'Right Livelihood', in 1994 he started working at the Evolution shop in Ipswich. He was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in the summer of 2001, on the same ordination retreat as Dayasara.
Gunasara's particular spiritual interest is meditation, and he also finds it helpful to draw on Western culture and working practices where they are congruent with Buddhist teachings.
Gunasara has practised yoga for years, but claims to be still stiff as a board! He also enjoys his relationships with friends and his extended family.
