Portrait of Jnanamitra

Jñanamitra

Jñanamitra (pronounced 'nyar-na-mit-ra') was born into a British Army family in post-war Austria and spent her first eight years travelling the world. Since then, she has lived in the UK.

Buddhism was recommended to her by her doctor for health reasons and she became involved with the London Buddhist Centre in 1978. She was ordained as Jñanamitra in 1991.

Jñanamitra moved to Ipswich in 1992 to work at the Evolution shop (a Buddhist 'right livelihood' business). She has taught meditation in Ipswich ever since.

Jñanamitra's spiritual focus is to help others move towards Enlightenment through teaching and through running the Ipswich Buddhist Centre.

Jñanamitra enjoys open air watercolour sketching and has a passion for architecture.
