Portrait of Srivandana - with Judy Garland

Srivandana

Srivandana (pronounced 'shree-van-dan-ah') led a peripatetic early life in Sussex and Hampshire before she and her mother settled down by the sea at Hayling Island, near Portsmouth.

She first came across Buddhism in 1978 in the writings of Christmas Humphreys, and felt immediately that she was a Buddhist. But she didn't attend a Buddhist Centre until May 1982; this felt like a homecoming, and she never looked back! She was ordained as Srivandana in 1993, and spent time at the London, Leeds and Brighton Buddhist Centres before coming to Ipswich.

Her spiritual focus is friendship - particularly helping women work towards ordination. She also faces the challenge of working with chronic ill health.

Srivandana worked as an art psychotherapist for many years, helping people with mental health problems and degenerative disease. She is also a fully qualified member of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers.

Srivandana is a member of the Ipswich Arts Society and has had work accepted for their exhibitions. She loves classical music and jazz, delights in nature and the sea, and is fond of cats - she shares her home with one by the name of Judy Garland. And she likes to help things grow - plants or people!
